The World Wildlife Foundation painstakingly selects the land programmes and the most critically endangered animals grouping them into a 100 List. We will present to you our 100 List every year or whenever necessary, it will be an imperfect presentation and you may not agree with the entire list, but we shall strive to do our best.
As an animal charity, we rely on the support and donations of others in order to pursue our causes. Saving these endangered animals is not an easy task. You will note throughout this site that there are many obstacles that must be overcome in order to achieve our goals and we have to set about tackling these obstacles in the correct way if we are to achieve a lasting success.
Animal conservation is not a lone operation and the more people who get involved the better. Therefore, we invite members and representatives of any animal charity to join with us in support of these endangered animals. With action required all over the World, we need as much localised support as possible in order to establish and manage conservation programmes. The 100 List can work side by side with an animal charity in any part of the World in order to help save these endangered animals.
We need donations from individuals and organisations in order to provide safe breeding grounds for endangered animals as part of our land programmes. We require monetary donations with which to buy land. We also require money so that we can pay compensation to landowners in return for not killing endangered animals that have killed their livestock.
However, as important as these donations are, we also need to raise awareness of the plight of these endangered animals. We need to educate the local population about the effects they are having on their wildlife and about how they can help to protect it and help it flourish again.
On a global scale, we also need to make people aware that this is World wildlife that we are concerned about. Once these endangered animals are gone, they are gone from the whole World. That will be yet another species extinct it what is a relatively short period of the Earth' s history.
We can' t afford to let these animals die out when the solution to the problem is available if we only had access to the right resources. Sadly, these resources such as land and money, which seem to be in plentiful supply when expanding corporate empires across the World, seem very hard to come by when animals, many of which walked this earth long before man, are in danger of extinction.

The Urgent Land Programme
You know that once an animal is gone from us…if it becomes extinct……… it is gone forever. There is no coming back. There is no wonderful magic wand waved by scientists to use DNA to reconvene a gene pool of a family of animals. No animal charity can then help at all. It will be too late.
Well, this is the reason for our urgent programme. Here we are building up the financial resources to buy the land the endangered-animals need. If we protect the land the animals will survive & flourish. Of course, we work closely with other animal charity specialists including working on rare breeding programmes but saving the animals own land is the supreme need. It is, put simply the only way to succeed permanently!
Our trust-managed land will keep people out & animals in. No animal charity can do better than to save the homeland that belongs to the animals. It has always been their land.

What Does the Programme Do?
We shall buy large tracts of pristine Patagonian land for conservation for all time. Patagonia is the fabled land of verse & legend, but even here people encroach with their sheep & cattle ranching, their logging & tourists. We intend to keep all this to a minimum & ensure that people do not encroach & damage the animals bio-diversity systems that are so delicate & easy to push past the "tipping point" to animal extinction. We are the only animal charity or non-profit with such a programme.
What Animals Are We Protecting?
The list of endangered Patagonian animals is a long one, including the wonderful Patagonian Puma, the almost extinct rare deer called the Huemel, the south American Ostrich the Rhea, elusive wildcats, Patagonian foxes; also we will protect the habitat of over one hundred & thirty bird species like the Magellan woodpecker busy in the Lega forests, the famous condor souring high in the thermals, or the delightful little pygmy owl. So many to protect & such little time to act. Difficult? Yes, but not impossible!
These wonderful animals are there in Patagonia now. We have identified the land areas that cradle & nourish these rare & beautiful animals.
